What is "Ashi" Acupuncture and how is it different.
The Style of Acupuncture that I practice is called, "Ashi" meaning, "that's it." It is finding the focal point of tension in the muscle and treating it directly. Typically, in the pain patterns I see, the muscle gets overloaded through a trauma or overuse and will tighten in response. The body is guarding itself from further injury and does not want to relax. When the muscle is tight, blood flow is restricted and it has a hard time going in to nourish the tissue and exiting to discard of cellular debris. The goal of this style of acupuncture is not to treat energy channels but to treat the root of the problem; the source of the injury.
My specialty is locating and treating chronic pain. Pain can persist for months or even years and interfere with daily living. As someone who has suffered from long lasting pain, I personally know that the quality of life can decrease because of time spent focusing on pain instead of being present with what is important to you. The body is largely made up of muscle and it is common for them to get strained. Treating muscle pain is my bread and butter, and I know how it should respond. Typically we will see improvement within the first three treatments. If we were not to see any progress within three treatments, we would have to re-evaluate. I do not want to waste anyone's time or money and if we are not making noticeable progress, I prefer to refer my patient out. Usually we can find relief after 3-10 treatments, depending on the area and the age of the injury.

I commonly treat low back, hip, neck and shoulder pain often accompanied by headaches, elbow thumb, groin, knee, calf
and foot pain. My sub specialty is numbness anywhere on the body especially hand numbness.
